MULTILINGUAL CHARACTERS

Compilation ng mga naalala ko pa from my college educ pero kung me additional info kayo or correction, palagay na lang sa comment at I will add it here accordingly. Wag sana tayong troll. These info are posted here for TOPpers and writers from TOP. If you are neither, feel free to be high and might somewhere else. Ktnx.

HERE WE GO.

HOW TO DEAL WITH MULTILINGUAL CHARACTERS

Kung English ang ginamit na language no need to say that it was said in English. If the sentence you wrote is in Filipino kasi in general ang conversation nila is in *insert whatever foreign language your character speaks*, ok lang not to mention it after that. Adjusted na sa isip ng mga readers mo that the characters are speaking in *that foreign language* after you mention it once na they are speaking in that language to each other.

example:

"Ano bang problema mo sa akin?" sigaw nito sa sariling wika.

"Marami!

"Pabo. Ikaw lang ang sarang ko. Sila, ssaeng fans lang. Ako. Ako lang ang may bias sa iyo. Sila tagapalakpak lang."

Kailangang ilagay sa narration in italics ung translations ng mga foreign words and sentences. Pero shempre kakamatay na isulat un in that language then use Filipino.
Mention the shift in the language only if the Filipino dialogue was meant to be in
another language.

fictional example : The man is Korean. The woman is American.

wika.

"What did you just say to me?" hinarap ni Sara ang binata. "Wag mo akong ma-Hangul

Fine. I'll speak plain. How many freaking times do I have to tell you that I don't
have a relationship or never had one with that woman? I love you. I have a
relationship with you! Gets mo na?"

***TRILINGUAL characters or bilingual characters are hard to deal with. And you
need to remember your readers ALWAYS. Make your story readable and understandable.
Romance is a nobrainer read. But that doesn't mean your readers are dumb. But
romance should be an easy read not a JRR Tolkein one.

Romance is in POPULAR Filipino. 70% if not 80% if it should be in Filipino.

SHOW VS TELL : HOW TO NARRATE YOUR NOVEL

Compilation ng mga naalala ko pa from my college educ pero kung me additional info kayo or correction, palagay na lang sa comment at I will add it here accordingly. Wag sana tayong troll. These info are posted here for TOPpers and writers from TOP. If you are neither, feel free to be high and might somewhere else. Ktnx.

Here we go.

Minsan kasi more more dialogue lang sa story. This is not ok.

Remember that there should be more SHOW then there are TELLs in your story. When you state a fact that is a TELL when you describe the surrounding and the emotion of the characters or make them move a certain way to show how they are really feeling versus the dialogue then you give the reader a mental picture, that's a SHOW.

It's ok to make it long muna then shorten it later. But if your narrative lacks visualization mejo bulag din ung reader mo. Remember that THEY CAN NOT READ YOUR MIND.

Usually script like dialogues happen when the people talking are doing it so fast
that the reader must read the dialogues right after each other.

i.e. fictional - away

"I don't understand this. Why would you do this?" naiiyak na tanong ni Ruru kay
Scott.
"Because you are lying to me!" galit nitong sagot sa kanya.
"I am not lying to you!"
"You are!"
"I'm not!"
"Then tell me that you are not in love with my cousin! Tell me and I would stop
hurting. I would stop hurting so much that I want to hurt him too."
Natahimik si Ruru sa sinabi ni Scott. She didn't know that he knew about her
feelings.
"Tell me that you don't love him and I would stay."
"I can't..."
And it tore her
heart. She was
hurting too.
One
step back that ended her resolve. He was giving up on her, nakikita niya sa mata
damdamin nito.
"I'm sorry, Scott."
"You should be." pagkuwa'y tumalikod na ang binata at tuluyan nang nawala sa
kanyang buhay.

***if you notice the script like parts are for rapid and very emotional scenes most
of the time. It is necessary for the lines to be read right after each other
because the narration breaks the flow of the emotion. So don't do this script- like
thing unless in a similar situation

ie. dying person

"Don't leave me." naiiyak na usal ni Sasha.
"I'm sorry I can't stay..."
"Don't leave me...please, Josh! Josh, please...please don't die."
"I'll love you..." napa-ubo ito pero nagpatuloy pa rin, "...always." dahan-dahang
bumagal ang paghinga nito.
"Josh..."
Always was just another broken promise like
forever.

POV and Voices

Honestly I don't know what they are called officially but for this part let's just call POV the general way the story is told. In TOP novels it's best to place them in The 3rd person or the Niya POV.

Then there is the person whose "voice" or point of reference is used for the said chapter. *that is not the official name for it pero I am sure someone would correct me and I can change that later.

Reminder : MAX of TWO voices in the story. The Bidang Girl - BG and the Bidang Boy - BB.

Pero minsan gusto ng writer me 2 voices sa isang chapter pero isa dito hindi si BG or BB. Pero dapat the world in the story revolves around the BG and the BB lang.

EXAMPLE:

"That's my cousin!" sigaw ng kanyang kasintahan.
"Ruru, this is my cousin Toshi, Toushiro Yamagi. Toshi, this is by beloved Ruru, Rusandra Montenegro soon to be Greyson." naramdaman niya ang pagpisil ng kasintahan sa kanyang balikat nang akbayan siya nito.
It could be the way that he was looking at her o sadyang kinakabahan lang siya tuwinang may humahanga sa kanyang nobya.
Ruru is his and he was hers for keeps.

Teaser Example : Crimson Love

This is just an example
Check the HOW TO HERE to get more info

Ever1 : (EIC version one) Example with a question in the end - Le Hook
Toushiro Yamagi fell for Rusandra "Ruru" Montenegro after meeting her in Tokyo Japan. Ruru was caught between Toshi's (or whatever his nickname is) persistent love and the respect she had for her boyfriend, Scott Greyson, Toshi's cousin.

Would she risk her heart with Toshi or stay with Scott's comforting arms?

Ever2: Example with a declarative sentence where the main character needs to make a choice between two people or two really bad situations.
Loving two men was never a part of Ruru's plans. She was perfectly fine loving Scott Greyson and had been dreaming of turning Rusandra Montenegro to Rusandra Greyson soon. That was before Soctt's cousin Toushiro Yamagi came into her life.

Now she needs to chose which one to keep, the man who loved her or the man who made her heart beat fast again.

Ever3: Example with lines from the story
Toushiro Yamagi was caught in a rock and a hard place. The woman he loved is his favorite cousin's girlfriend. Rusandra Montenegro was a proper lady, the kind that was for keeps. But how could he keep her in his life when she was never his in the first place?

“G-give me back my kiss.” maktol na sabi pa ni Ruru kay Toushiro.

"Don't worry, I'll give it back with interest."

I hope this was able to help you! <3

Format or Freestyle?

Dahil mahilig akong maglista, ilista natin.

3. VIRGIN WRITERS

There is nothing wrong sa kung first time mo pa lang mag-sulat. So that your readers can focus on the contents.

4. GRAMMAR FORGETters

So there is bound to be one or more words na misspelled mo or di kaya ay hindi mo talaga makikitang me typo ka na pala.

5. NO NARRATION writers

Puro ito tell walang SHOW.

A writer is his or her worst critique. A piece should have been the best of what could be made at a given time. If changes could be made at a later time, with fresh eyes, one should never be ashamed to move forward and make those changes. Talent in storytelling is one thing but writing is a skill that can be improved in time, with effort and open-mindedness.

So as for Format vs Freestyle, I think I would stick to the old school.

HOW TO FIND INSPIRATION for ROMANCE NOVEL WRITING

1. Make friends.

What I learned from my favorite professor in college is that "A writer needs friends." not because of the adage that a man is not an island but because you need friends to make you live your life outside of the confines of your own home.

Good friends make the best heroines. Bad friends or people who hurt you make the best villains.

2. People watch as often as you can.

This is probably the most lucrative way for a newb to get inspiration. If you are in the mall or just in the park, absorb while you observe. Best way to do this? Wear earphones but don't plug it into a device or if you do, don't play any music. You have now a pretend barrier and people can now freely do whatever they want and believe me you will pick up some awesome chatter.

3. Learn something new everyday and acknowledge it.

In the world where GOOGLE exists, people tend to be lax when it comes to learning new things. As a writer you don't have the luxury of being stagnant. Even if you can read blogs and google just about everything you need to place on your novel, the bottom line is that feeling would be missing.

4. Experience is the best teacher.

Do not be afraid to love and to explore your feelings. If you are not able to acknowledge your own feelings, how can you explain it to others? How would you be able to paint a picture of a place that you have never been to but already exists. So travel as much as you can, make a lot of memories and draw from there the settings of your work and the people in your life can be pieces of the people that you write about.

5. Acknowledge REAL LOVE when you see it.

I am sure there are people out there or in your life who can show you or you can talk to about this. It could be an older person or even an elderly person. Ask them for advice about how to find true love and perhaps stories of how love cam in their lives. Based on a true story may not be that old, but it's great to know that REAL and TRUE LOVE exists in the world. And that inspiration, more than anything would help you. Mine are my parents. Best love story ever, going strong 27 years too. ^.^

6. Read other styles and genre.

If you are stuck in the Romance genre, you would start getting stagnant and just like water, it breeds all sorts of things and starts to...stink. So think of your love for writing as water and your genre as a tiny tributary that leads to a river that leads to the sea to an ocean. If you keep your water in just one place and it never flows to meet other bodies of water then eventually it would dry up. Surely it would find it's way back to the ocean as rain but it would never flow back to where it was in the first place.

7. Filter your media.

As much as the world is full of posts, comments and links, you don't have to see everyone of them. If you are full of stimuli your brain would be blotted and won't have enough time to process everything. You might end up with a social networking addiction that would cut time for your writing. As much as maybe a writing group would help, writing time should not be FB or (insert later social network that is booming) time either.

8. FACETIME with other homo sapiens.

To help you make believable dialogues and know the way people do talk then you need to listen to them, interact and actually figure out that there are new "words" and trends that are out there.

9. Read more literary books and ingest a lot of poems.

10. Fall in love and fall out of love.

Basic Characters in a Romance Novel

Sa Romance pocketbook me bida. Ang bida me kapareha. Simple lang di ba?

Mali.

Supporting Cast - di kailangang sobrang daming taong nasa mundo mo.

Fairy God Character - para itong daddy long legs or Deo Ex Machina. Last resort dapat ito. At least para sa akin ha.

deus ex machina (play /ˈd.əs ɛks ˈmɑːknə/ or /ˈdəs ɛks ˈmækɨnə/ day-əs eks mah-kee-nə;[1] Latin: "god from the machine"; plural: dei ex machina) is a plot device whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem is suddenly and abruptly solved with the contrived and unexpected intervention of some new event, character, ability, or object. (wikipedia)

Minimize the people in the scene. Minsan nga three is a crowd.

How to Make a Teaser

How to make a teaser
by Pinaywriter

Disclaimer: All tips here are made by yours truly. Backlink to show me some respect if you are going to link it to your blog. And do not copy paste it on your blog. Just get a highlight then link back here. Get it?

Three Paragraphs Four Sentences each - 12 sentences max

Pwedeng ganito:
(How Did I fall in Love with You by Martha Cecilia)

Hindi gusto ni Ronan si Laurel, the most popular girl in the campus, the girl who could smile away the thunder and kiss away the rain. She was a snob, too.
At lalong hindi rin gusto ni Laurel si Ronan, the most infamous guy in the campus. Wild and crude...and, well, gorgeous. Hindi niya gustong aminin iyon.
Theirs was a case of hate at first sight.

At magiging abala na ako...So the wedding could be set on Wednesday next week," patuloy nito na tila ba ang pinag-uusapan ay ang pagbaba at pagtaas ng stock market. "Yes, Wednesday next week is perfect."
Jordan proposed to marry her to keep her form doing any more mischief - at upang huwag na niyang habulin pa si Rowel. Proposed? No, he didn't propose.

Tulad nito:
(Suzanna's Surrender by Nora Roberts)

Burned-out and tired as hell, all ex-cop Hold Bradford wanted to do was relax. But when beautiful single mom Suzanna invaded his solitude to search for the missing Calhoun emeralds, he couldn't say no. Hold had changed from a bad-boy teen to a dangerously sexy man, but Suzanna couldn't risk well-ordered life for a man who made her mouth go dry...

OTHER EXAMPLES:

Raine hated weddings, but only on the surface. She actually loved them, the gown, the cake and the promise of a life together. But in her life men have proven that happily ever after doesn't exist. Between her father who cheated on her mother, to her ex-boyfriends who cheated on her and her ex-fiancee who turned out to have fathered a child while they were together, she was done with men.

Hercules loved weddings, but only on the surface. His events company has so many weddings to put together that he never wants to put up with it if it was up to him. Plus, bride's can get a little bit too horny for his own good. As far as he was concerned once a man gets down on one knee, they never get up from that position.

So be vigilant.

T.O.P. NOVEL CHAPTER FORMAT

CHAPTER ONE 6

Seoul, South Korea, 2010...
"Bakeeeeet?5" eksaherado niyang tanong.
“Ayaw mo akong katabi?" tila nalulungkot nitong tanong.

1. Ang UNANG SALITA sa inyong chapter/bagong scene/change of Point of View or POV ay dapat na BOLD at ALL CAPS.

6. BOLD and ALL CAPS ang CHAPTER NUMBER

I-bold or gawin italics ito kung diary entry or message o note

'Are you home?'

Sa totoong publication me reader one and two bago pa ang editor.

10. Tandaan na 10 chapters of 10-12 chapters lang dapat.

2,500 words per chapter = 25,000 words (maximum)
2,400 words per chapter = 24,000 words (minimum)
Check out the word count rule sa TOP Tutorial : Writing Workshop

11. TIMES NEW ROMAN 12 double spaced one inch margin = for novel submission

This is to help form uniformity.
At please, wag na wag kayong magagalit o maiinis sa editor in secret. Send me a hate mail anytime you need to say something. Wag matakot magsabi ng totoong nararamdaman. Para walang gulo.
All the revisions are made for the improvement of your novel. Learn from it. Don't pout and say na ayaw ninyong magpa-edit. Hindi yan ang kalakaran ng totoong buhay. We have a standard to follow. Here in T.O.P. bawal ang feeling nila wala na silang kamalian sa katawan. We are a family and family help each other kahit masakit tanggapin minsan.

Disclaimer: This might be T.O.P. forum specific at times. I will try to be as general as I possibly can.

1. The key work is RESPECT.

If you need me to explain this to you, you need to go back to your GMRC classes and retake basic human respect. Seriously. Or google the dictionary meaning of respect.

I have a firm my blog, my opinion policy.Whatever I write on my personal blog is my opinion. If I am in a social site or a forum, I try to respect the opinion of other people. If I disagree with them I make sure I don't use fallacies like attacking their person so I can debunk their premise or conclusion.
That just show that you are dumber than the other person.

2. Quote only the parts you agree in.

It's a little difficult to read through a dozen quotes just to find a smiley in the end. It takes up space. So if you must, quote the parts that you want to react to not the entire conversation.

3. Own up to your words.

I hate people who troll other people's sites and forums as Anonymous. I mean, if you have an opinion, express it and own up to it.

4. Nonfiction not fiction, if you can, stick to the truth.

I have encountered a lot of liars online. It seems to be a thing for a time. But if one wants to make real friends, then it's best to tell them who you really are and what you really are.

Since we are living almost half of our lives through our profiles, we need to make sure that 98% of our online self is the real us. We can keep the 2% for our deep dark secrets and for the photoshoped versions of ourselves.

I would hate to know that the real person behind the online persona that I liked or befriended is pure fiction. I would not believe anything else that person would say after that. Liars, offline and online are lame.

5. Use your words.

Smileys and jejemon speak is a big no-no. Especially if the forum that you are in include people from all walks of life. This is a mortal sin if you are in a writing site or a writer's forum.

No matter the reason, it's unacceptable, irritating and downright dumb. (I know I am being harsh but the truth often hurts.)

So all in all, there are a million other things we do wrong online. Don't even start on my hentai addiction. (opps...did I say that out loud? *makes penance*) But although the internet is a tool that is neither good or evil, so was the Orb of Aldur. (if you understood that reference and you are a single guy, call me. ^_^)
What we do with it and what we will it to do determines whether or not WE are the good guy or the bad guy.

So respect your neighbors, and by neighbors I mean other netizens.
